Useful information about your journey towards sound

Getting the implant

Getting a cochlear implant requires surgery to insert the internal part of the cochlear implant system. The surgery is relatively simple, quick and minimally invasive which is why most people only need to stay in hospital for one to three days following surgery. Once healed, your audiologist can activate the sound processor, which allows you to hear.

Your doctor and audiologist can determine whether you are a candidate for a cochlear implant.

After the surgery, I felt fine. There was no pain or issues of any kind, and I went home again the day after. In fact, the biggest issue was the fact that they shaved my head around the implant. They’re certainly not trained hairdressers at the hospital

Everything with the surgery went smoothly. I wore a bandage afterwards, but I had no issues.
