Imaging Research Engineer

Imaging Research Engineer

Join us in making a difference for our users and clinical partners by contributing to the development of a state-of-the-art medical imaging solution for the inner ear.

We are looking for a medical imaging expert with experience developing both research- and commercial-grade software solutions for the processing of medical images.

You will be joining Oticon Medical’s Product Innovation Team in Nice, on the French Riviera working closely with the Research & Technology (R&T) team: a dynamic, ambitious, international, curiosity-driven crew of >15 research engineers and scientists. We are dedicated to shaping the future of hearing implant solutions. We investigate, conceptualize, prototype, implement, communicate, and share our vision and our work with Oticon Medical’s product development and clinical teams. We work closely with our academic and external clinical partners and share with them our passion.

Your core responsibilities will be to contribute to the development of a research-grade imaging solution dedicated to automatic processing, segmentation, and analysis of cochlear- and other inner ear structures. Importantly, you will also facilitate the evolution of that solution into a commercial-grade product. Therefore, your closest collaborations will be with the research project manager and the research/prototyping team on the one end, and with the product developing organization on the other end. You will also interact regularly with various stakeholders in the Research, Product Development, Product Management, Marketing and Clinical teams across our Danish and French sites at Oticon Medical.

Your responsibilities include:

Develop

•    Conceptualize, implement, and test functionalities to feed our existing imaging pipeline allowing the automatic processing, segmentation, and analysis of cochlear and other structures of the inner ear from CT or MRI images (Python code-base)
•    Document your activities and code according to best practices
•    Review the code of your fellow developers
•    Support clinical researchers/pioneer users of our research-grade solution on analytics (e.g. descriptive statistics, statistical modeling)
•    Contribute to our scientific communication agenda, including by writing/contributing to peer-reviewed publications and presentations in international conferences

Transfer

You can expect your responsibilities soon to include:

•    Support the product-development organization in charge of translating our research-grade imaging solution into commercial software. You will thus:
•    Assist system engineers and product owner in specifying system requirements
•    Consult on project planning, specifically for the estimation of software development workload and reasonable timelines.

Your profile:

•    MSc or PhD in medical image analysis or similar
•    Proficient with Bayesian methods and deep learning applied to medical imaging
•    Track record of successful experiences and key contributions to industrial development and/or academic research
•    Proficient with Python and its distribution of SimpleITK, VTK, PyTorch, numpy, scipy, Django, Celery   (+others)
•    Experience with software development methodologies (e.g. Agile, Scrum, Kanban, etc.)
•    Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary teams including systems engineers, regulatory affairs, requirements engineer, verification and validation, is a plus.
•    Experience with distributed execution on many cores systems is a plus.
•    Experience/proficiency with Javascript (React, itk.js, vtk.js) is a plus.
•    Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud Services or similar is a plus.
•    Experience with Kubernetes deployment and Docker is a plus.
•    Be enthusiastic about interacting with many stakeholders from various technical and business backgrounds.
•    Be self-motivated and energized working in a multidisciplinary and international team-environment.
•    Fluency in English (both spoken and written).
•    Understanding of French is a plus.

The position entails travelling for about 30 days/year.
