Ponto abutment design
No two patients are alike, which is why Ponto abutments are available in a range of sizes for different skin thicknesses and bone anchored hearing surgical techniques, including the new Minimally Invasive Ponto Surgery (MIPS).
A skin-friendly abutment concept
The Ponto OptiFit™ design is used on all abutment sizes to create a perfectly matched interface between the abutment and the skin. All Ponto abutments have a pure medical grade titanium surface, which has been proven for bone anchored hearing surgery and tissue preservative surgery performed with minimally invasive surgery techniques such as MIPS.
Ponto abutments use three principles aimed at keeping skin as healthy as possible:
- Different abutment sizes specifically designed for different skin thicknesses
- Minimal movement between the skin and implant-abutment interface
- Designed to prevent pockets and pathways where bacteria can collect
One size does not fit all
With a wide range of Ponto abutments, it is possible to adapt to different skin thicknesses without any soft tissue removal.
The Ponto abutments are mounted on the Ponto BHX Implant for highest initial stability and strong bone anchorage.
Ponto abutment 6 mm:
For skin thickness of 0.5 to 3 mm
Ponto abutment 9 mm:
For skin thickness of 3-6 mm
Ponto abutment 12 mm:
For skin thickness of 6-9 mm
Ponto abutment 14 mm:
For skin thickness of 9-12 mm
Ponto angled abutment:
For angling the sound processor position with 10° angle
Designed for tissue preservation
All abutments can be used with tissue preservation surgical techniques, including Minimally Invasive Ponto Surgery. The MIPS surgical procedure creates a circular incision of just 5 mm that fits perfectly with the Ponto abutment thereby removing the need for any suturing.
Universal processor connection
Bone anchored hearing surgery is a long-term solution that will affect the rest of your life. That's why we believe you should have access to developments from throughout the industry. For this reason, the Ponto System is designed to give you the Freedom of Choice when selecting a sound processor.

Choosing Freedom of choice
Independent studies have investigated the performance of the Ponto sound processors compared to equivalent bone anchored sound processors. And the result is clear; two thirds of all respondents prefer Ponto.
