Ponto improvements to surgical components

Oticon Medical’s implant concept rests on proven technology while refining important details. The Ponto implant system is designed to support optimal osseointegration and to minimize soft tissue problems.

Osseointegration

The implant system is self-tapping and based on the well documented Brånemark implant technology. The two circular micro-sized threads at the lower side of the implant flange are designed to reduce bone resorption and increase the bone-to-implant contact surface.

Improved implant and abutment design

Two important factors behind skin irritation in the area surrounding the abutment are bacterial growth and movement of the skin in relation to the abutment. Ponto abutments and implants are designed to alleviate these problems by preventing bacterial leakage and by supporting the skin all the way to the abutment.

First angled abutment

Anatomical variations around the implant site can cause the sound processor to come in contact with the skin, resulting in feedback and discomfort. The 10° angled abutment – the first of its kind – allows surgeons to optimze the position of the sound processor and prevent problems that can be caused by the sound processor touching the skin.

Improvements in surgical instrumentation

Oticon Medical has made several improvements to the Ponto surgical instruments designed to facilitate safe, problem-free surgery. These improvements demand no alterations to well-proven surgical procedures.

Improving what's good
Safe and proven

The Ponto implant system is based on the world-leading Brånemark osseointegration principle – a technology that has proven to be both safe and highly efficient.

Oticon Medical has enhanced this concept by introducing features designed to:

  • Reduce bone resorption
  • Minimize skin movement
  • Prevent skin irritation and infection

The Ponto system has both FDA clearance and CE certification.
